Today is truly a historic day for all who have sought to give North Carolina's children the healthy start they deserve. Congress has passed legislation extending and strengthening the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), known in North Carolina as Health Choice, and President Barack Obama signed the bill into law today!
This federal investment is a huge win for Action for Children North Carolina partners throughout the state who have worked for years to make covering uninsured children a priority in Raleigh and on Capitol Hill. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle from the statehouse to the White House have agreed with us: covering kids is efficient, achievable, important to our present and our future, and just the right thing to do.
The White House is asking Americans to comment on this remarkable passage. Take a few minutes to visit the White House Web site and share your support for covering kids.
The federal government's foresight creates an outstanding opportunity for North Carolina's legislators to completely fund and implement Health Choice. Let your state representatives, senators and governor know how important it is to avoid a freeze or waiting list for Health Choice. In these tough economic times, we cannot afford to shortchange our children.
Celebrate today because you have made a real difference for North Carolina's children.
Sincerely, Action for Children North Carolina
